Newsletter & Research

Growing up in Japan, origami was a cherished part of my childhood, a tradition learned in elementary school that has stayed with me through the years. I bring my love for travel, coffee, and my deep connection to Japanese culture to the team. My research skills in Japanese help me uncover the rich history and techniques of origami. Life is an adventure shared with my partner, Florent, and our lovely child, Nao. Together, we fold through life, one crease at a time.

My origami journey began 17 years ago, evolving into a profound passion throughout the years. My proudest accomplishment has been contributing to a vibrant local origami scene at UC Berkeley’s CAL Origami Club, where I helped to host local conventions and co-founded a university-level origami design class, aiming to inspire creativity within students. For me, origami offers a sense of accomplishment as I transform a flat sheet into a three-dimensional artwork. Its beauty lies not just in its complexity and precision but in the community, a shared connection, and appreciation for the art form.

I’m Jimena Candia from Firmat (Santa Fe), Argentina. I’ve been an origamist for several years. I also design origami models, hold workshops, and create diagrams. I’ve joined international virtual meetings like the Origami USA virtual convention and OWM4. I’ve taught origami for 12 years, both online and in person. What strikes me most about the art of origami is that you never stop learning. Origami shows that creativity has no limits.

Immersed in the captivating culture of Japan for over five years, I’ve developed a profound appreciation for its arts, including the delicate practice of origami. Although I consider myself a beginner, my fascination with origami has grown immensely. When I’m not exploring the folds and creases of origami, you can find me enjoying a good podcast or playing with our little one. Join me on this journey of discovery, and let’s unfold the endless possibilities that origami has to offer.
