Introducing the Joisel Awards for 2021
The Community for Creators of Origami has created a new yearly event/award called the Joisel Awards.
The award is named in honor of Eric Joisel, an amazing origami artist who sadly passed away in 2010.
There are two fields, Figurative and Abstract and four main awards, the Artistic Award, the Technical Award, The Folding-Process Award and the Interpretation Award. Eight artists in total will win awards.
The Artistic Award is for an origami model that conveys a message and achieves artistic heights.
The Technical Award is for a model that showcases amazing folding technique.
The Folding-Process Award showcases models with outstanding sequences and elegance.
Finally the Interpretation Award is for the best interpretation of another artist’s design. I’m actually a judge for this award which is pretty cool.
There’s a lot of different judges from all over the origami community and the world. You’ll probably recognize a lot of them as their work has been featured on this site in the past.
You can learn more about the award and nominate an artist here.
I don’t think there are any issues if you want to nominate yourself either.
And since I’m making a post here I’ll just include a quick update about this site. I’m still really busy with work and life but hopefully I’ll be able to work on this site again soon. I still have to finish my own Best of 2018 awards and then I’m hoping to do some for 2019 and 2020 too. Those will probably have fewer categories just so I can get them done as soon as possible.
So keep watching the site, that all is hopefully happening soon and thanks everyone for your ongoing support.
