How to Make an Easy Origami Skull

This origami skull by Sébastien Limet is a simple, clean design with an enjoyable folding sequence that’s easy to follow.

It’s perfect for beginners or anyone looking for a Halloween origami that’s both simple and striking.

It’s also a great introduction to shaping with the eyes and nose that reveal the color underneath, adding depth and character to your skull.

Origami Skull Step-by-Step Instructions

  • Difficulty: Easy – Beginner Level 5
  • Folding time: 10 minutes

  • Paper: 15×15 cm (6×6 in) Kami

Step 1

Start with the colored side of the paper facing up. Fold and unfold the paper in half vertically and horizontally.

Step 2

Fold and unfold each edge to meet the centerline.

Step 3

Fold and unfold each corner to the center point.

Turn the paper over.

Fold and unfold both diagonals.

Collapse the paper along the existing creases to form a Waterbomb base.

Fold the bottom edge of the top layer upward along the existing crease. Then, fold the bottom edges to the centerline and flatten along the existing creases.

Swivel fold the corner upward along the dashed lines.

Squash fold the flap created in Step 8 to the left.

Repeat Steps 8 and 9 on the right side.

Turn the model over from top to bottom.

On the left side, lift the top layer.

Fold the left edge to the centerline.

Fold the layer back down.

Repeat Steps 12 to 14 on the right side.

Fold the top edge of the top layer down to the horizontal centerline. Make a small pinch mark, then unfold.

Fold the top left and right corners inward to the pinch you just made.

Fold the top edge down to meet the circled points.

Turn the model over.

Gently open the top layers around the skull’s eyes and nose to reveal the color change.

💀 Folding tip: Shape them however you like, but be careful, the paper can tear easily here!
