How to Fold an Origami Cube
The Sonobe Cube is a wonderful example of modular origami, where multiple folded pieces come together to form an origami cube.
This model is made from six identical units, called Sonobe modules, which Mitsunobu Sonobe introduced in the late 1960s. Over the years, the Sonobe Cube has become a favorite among origami enthusiasts for its simplicity and elegance.
To make this paper cube, you’ll fold six square sheets of paper into Sonobe units, then assemble them by sliding the flaps of one piece into the pockets of another.
You won’t need any glue or tape. Just clever folds and a bit of patience! It’s easy enough for beginners to pick up, and trust me, the feeling you get when you finally see the finished cube is so satisfying.
Ready to give it a try? Let’s get folding!
