How to Fold an Easy Origami Dog
The traditional origami dog is a classic in the world of paper folding.
With its lovely simplicity, this model is ideal for beginners and great for practicing pleat folds.
Follow our step-by-step instructions and you’ll fold this simple origami dog in just a few minutes.
Traditional Origami Dog Step-by-Step Instructions
- Difficulty: Very easy
- Folding time: Less than 5 minutes

- Paper: Kami 15×15 cm
Step 1
Start with the white side of the paper facing you. Fold in half diagonally and unfold.
Step 2
Fold the sides to the center line.
Step 3
Turn the paper over.
Step 4
Fold the top point down to the bottom corner.
Step 5
Fold the flap upwards to create a pleat.
Step 6
Turn the model over.
Step 7
Fold the top point to the bottom of the folded color portion.
Step 8
Fold the flap upwards to create a pleat.
Step 9
Fold the bottom corner to the bottom of the folded color portion.
Step 10
Fold the flap down to create a pleat.
Step 11
Fold the top corner down to the bottom of the top pleat.
Step 12
Mountain fold the entire model in half and rotate it 1/4 of a turn counterclockwise.
Step 13
Fold one layer of the model from left to right. The top portion of the fold goes underneath the flap at the intersection of the existing pleat. Don’t fold the flap. The fold should be perpendicular to the bottom edge. Repeat behind.
Step 14
Bring the head down by folding the two creases you created in the previous step.
Step 15
Pull out the nose and tail slightly
