Chinese New Year 2018 Origami Dog Extravaganza!

Happy Chinese New Year everyone! 2018 is the year of the dog so it’s a great opportunity to take a look at a bunch of awesome origami dogs.

First up is this incredible doberman. The colour change in the design is fantastic and this looks really great with brown and black paper.

Katsuta Kyohei designed this fantastic Pomeranian. It’s not a very complex model but it has lots of character and you can definitely tell what it is.

Satoshi Kamiya has one of the most famous dog designs. I especially like how soft this one looks with the choice of paper here.

Hiroaki Kobayashi designed this excellent Shiba Inu again with a really nice colour change. Lost of these dogs have great colour changes incorporated in the design. To get the full effect you need to use two-coloured paper.

This dog in a doghouse is one of my favourite looking models. The whole thing is one sheet of paper and there’s a really excellent colour change so the dog and the house are different colours with two-sided paper.

This next dog is a bit different since it’s very simple looking with a few simple shapes. Despite that you can tell exactly what it’s supposed to be. I always like really simple models that still manage to communicate exactly what they’re supposed to be.

Our final model for this Chinese New Year Origami Extravaganza is another Shiba Inu and it might be the best origami dog that I’ve ever seen! I love the face, features, body and how soft the paper used here makes it look.

This model was on display at the 23th Origami Tanteidan Convention in Japan.
