How to Make an Easy Origami Parrot

Today, we are going to learn how to fold a traditional origami parrot, also known as an origami parakeet. This is one of the first origami projects that Japanese kindergarten students take on, and it’s perfect for beginners.

In Japanese culture, birds are seen as symbols of freedom and peace. Making them in origami shows a love for nature. While the crane is known for its peace and long-life symbolism, the parakeet adds a fun and colorful touch. People often use it for decorations or as a cute gift.

Grab some colorful origami paper, and let’s fold this lovely paper parrot suitable for beginner folders of all ages.

Step 7. “Fold the paper behind along the dotted line” is way to vague and also missing some vital punctuation.

Which bit is “the paper” and which direction is “behind” to go from the image in step 7 to the seemingly unrelated image in step 8.

bennett

im stuck on step 7

Ana

But where did the little outwording pointy edge go?

Riikka

The same confusion as the previous two commenters. The change from step 7 to 8 is puzzling.. Clearly something is missing, and also the paper swems to be slightly rotated without mentioning it.

Calla

I think ur missing a step btwn 7 and 8.

Peter

You’re right, just make a little Pleat fold at the top there.
