How to Fold an Easy Traditional Origami Tie
These instructions will show you how to make an easy origami tie, a perfect model to fold for a holiday like Father’s Day.
This model is great for beginners and can be folded in under five minutes. You can even pair it with an origami shirt using a smaller paper size.
Origami Necktie Step-by-Step Instructions
- Difficulty: Very easy
- Folding time: Less than 5 minutes
- Model designer: Traditional
- Recommended paper: Chiyogami 15×15 cm (5.9×5.9 in)
Step 1
Start with the white side of the paper facing up. Turn the paper 45 degrees clockwise. Fold in half and unfold.
Step 2
Bring the bottom corner up and align it with the top corner. Mark a pinch along the dotted line and unfold.
Step 3
Fold both sides to the center line.
Step 4
Fold the top corner down to the point of intersection.
Step 5
Turn the model over and fold along the dotted line. Use the small crease you made in Step 2 as a reference. Do not fold the back flap.
Step 6
Flip the model over and fold along the dotted line to the point indicated on the diagram.
Step 7
Squash fold as shown on the diagram. We’re going to create two new folds. You can watch the video in Step 8 if you’re unsure about this step.
Step 8
Repeat steps 6 and 7 on the right side.
Step 9
Bring the top corner down by folding along the dotted line.
Step 10
Tuck the top flap under the second flap, as shown in the diagram.
